One edit.
One line in the diff.
MDotion only rewrites the blocks you touch. Everything else is saved byte for byte, so ticking a to-do shows up in Git as exactly that.
- No reformatting, no normalised lists, no rewrapped paragraphs.
- HTML, reference links and anything the editor can't show stay verbatim.
- Save, undo and Git go through VS Code as usual.

Features
Everything a page needs. Nothing your files don't.
- Slash menu
- Headings, lists, to-dos, quotes, callouts, code, tables and images. Searchable, and fully keyboard driven.
- Blocks you can move
- Drag a block by its handle, or select several and move, duplicate or turn them into something else at once.
- Callouts that work on GitHub
- Note, tip, important, warning and caution are stored as GitHub alerts, so they render there too.
- Front matter as properties
- YAML front matter appears as page properties above the title, and is still edited as YAML.
- Markdown shortcuts
- Type # , - , [] or > and the block appears. ⌘B, ⌘I, ⌘K and the rest work as you expect.
- Code and tables
- Code blocks with a language picker, highlighting and a copy button. Tables with row and column controls.
- Source is one shortcut away
- Switch between Visual and Markdown in the same tab. Copy the whole file as Markdown with one command.
- Real files, live
- Edits go through VS Code, so dirty state and Git behave normally. Changes from outside show up as you type.
Install MDotion
It never takes over your Markdown on its own. Open a .md file and click the book icon, or let it become your default editor when it asks.

Does MDotion change my files?
Only the blocks you edit. Everything else is written back byte for byte, so formatting, spacing and line endings you did not touch stay exactly as they were.
What happens to Markdown the editor can’t show?
HTML, reference definitions, badges and anything else the editor cannot represent are kept verbatim as source blocks, with a sanitised preview. Nothing is dropped.
Which Markdown does it support?
CommonMark and GitHub Flavored Markdown (tables, task lists, strikethrough, autolinks) plus GitHub alerts are editable visually. Everything else is preserved.
Do I need an account? Does it send anything anywhere?
No account. MDotion runs entirely inside your editor, collects no telemetry, makes no network requests of its own and never uploads your files.
Will it replace the default Markdown editor?
Only if you say so. The first time you open a Markdown file it asks, and you can change your mind at any time from the command palette.
Is MDotion affiliated with Notion?
No. MDotion is an independent open-source project. “Notion-style” only describes the editing experience.
